Beacon has been leading the Marina Wi-Fi market for over 12
years. We had some of the first “pay as you go Marina Wi-Fi programs” in 2002,
introduced the first “amenity based Marina Wi-Fi program” in 2007, lead the
market with the “Marina Wi-Fi Network Concept” with MarinaCams and Web TV in
2010. In early 2014 Beacon introduced the Next Generation of Marina Wi-Fi
deployments designed to match and grow with the ever-changing mobile device
Beacon NextGen Marina Wi-Fi networks combine the
latest in Wi-Fi technology and custom development with the experience that comes
with over 1,000 outdoor Wi-Fi installations.
What does a NextGen Marina Wi-Fi network bring to your
customers? Speed. Coverage. Security. Simplicity. Support. Most
importantly, it gives your customers a reason to come back.
Transitioning to Beacon NextGen Marina Wi-Fi: The Beacon systems
of 2010 – 2013 were designed to service the current Wi-Fi landscape, which
consisted of 80% laptop communication and 20% other (other being defined as
tablet, gaming devices and smart phones). Many laptops utilized a 30mW+
built-in Wi-Fi radio which has a specific strength of communication and all
Beacon network topology supported this structure. As a result, the signals
that Beacon sent from our antennae matched up with the strength of the signal
returning from the majority end user devices.
Do you have a plan for the next 3-5 years? Currently 90% of our
end user devices are smart phones, tablets and media devices (gaming, TV, other
media). This percentage is only going to increase. These devices offer
significantly less power/performance as compared to many laptops. Not only do
these newer devices have less Wi-Fi power, there are many more of them at each
marina than ever imaginable, requiring a dynamic approach and a sustainable
growth plan. Beacon has a plan for you.
The Beacon NextGen Marina Wi-Fi solution has been battle tested by many
of our customers in 2014 and 2015, all over North America and the Caribbean.
Beacon NextGen Marina Wi-Fi = multiple mobile devices per boat,
